What is the 2025 Met Gala theme? Explaining Black dandyism
With a nod to menswear, the dress code for this year's event is "Tailored for You," while the theme is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style."
The theme will coincide with the Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibit of the same name, on view May 10 to Oct. 26 and inspired by Monica L. Miller's 2009 book, "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity." The exhibition will explore "the importance of style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora," particularly in the United States and Europe, and interpret "dandyism" as both an aesthetic and a socio-political strategy through garments, art and other objects from the 18th century to the present.
Here's what to know about dandyism as a concept and how fashion's biggest stars may interpret this year's theme.
It has been over three months since Starbucks reversed its ope n-door policy, requiring customers to make a purchase to use the coffee chain’s bathrooms, internet, get water, and use the chain’s lobby areas. Starbucks announced a policy in May 2018 , defining a customer as anyone who enters Starbucks − whether they buy something or not. That policy was reversed in January. While some customers understand the change, others feel it’s inhumane. And some Starbucks employees feel the policy puts a strain on already overworked and underpaid workers. Starbucks previously said the company wants to give customers a "third place" to go when they need it. Per the company's website, third places are not home, nor are they work. They're more like "somewhere in between." A Starbucks spokesperson said in order to give customers a "third place" to frequent, the company must be clear about what it expects when customers come to its spaces. Need a break? Play ...

Kennedy Jr. for the role just one day before the scheduled Senate confirmation hearing for his first pick, Dr. Janette Nesheiwat. In a May 7 post on Truth Social, Trump said Dr. Casey Means, a Stanford-educated physician, had "outstanding" academic credentials while also announcing he was pulling Nesheiwat's nomination. "Casey has impeccable 'MAHA' credentials, and will work closely with our wonderful Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to ensure a successful implementation of our Agenda in order to reverse the Chronic Disease Epidemic, and ensure Great Health, in the future, for ALL Americans," Trump said in a Truth Social post, referring to the "Make America Healthy Again" slogan. Trump said Nesheiwat - a Fox News me...
Restaurants and many retailers have deals and freebies for National Teacher Day on May 6, and National Teacher Appreciation Week, which runs May 6 to May 10. As summer and the end of the school year approaches, it's time to give it up for our teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week, which runs Monday, May 5, to Friday, May 9, and includes National Teachers Day on May 6. Parents with K-12 students have consistently appreciated teachers, with 73% of respondents rating their children's teachers as excellent or good, according to polling by Gallup. That rating, from 2023, was slightly higher than the 71% mark in 2018. Meanwhile, many teachers (77%) who participated in an April 2024 Pew Survey considered their job as "frequently stressful," or "overwhelming" (68%). A survey conducted March 26-April 1 by Horace Mann Educators Corporation, which provides financial services and insurance to educators, found more than 30% said they don’t feel appreciate...
